NEUROPSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES

Background color grad

At Vital Minds, we begin the neuropsychological evaluation process by having you or a family member submit a contact form below or email our admin team. Please provide our care team with your name (if different from the patient), the patient’s legal name, the patient’s date of birth, and email. We will create your patient profile. You will receive a link that expires in 24 hours (for security reasons). Please watch for this link after submitting the required information.

You will need to complete the patient portal login, where there will be forms and documents that often take a few hours to fill out. This information may include family history, educational history, developmental history, medical history, visuospatial skills, nutritional habits, and sleep patterns. Remember, all forms need to be filled out completely before we can schedule your testing date. Please notify us once this is complete. The data will help the doctor pre-select the tests that will be administered during your testing session. Also, ask Dr. Vedmed about any medications you are currently prescribed, as some types can influence the testing results.

Once all the data from the intake process, screeners, and testing session has been compiled and processed, report writing will begin. The report will be an in-depth, data-driven analysis of the results, which we will review with you during a virtual feedback session. During this session, our doctor will explain the characteristics and/or behaviors observed, as well as provide recommendations to address weaknesses and help you get the answers you are looking for.

Neuropsychological assessments (also known as evaluations or testing) are valuable tools used to evaluate cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functions. During an appointment, a neuropsychologist will conduct an interview and perform a wide range of neuropsychological tests to assess areas such as memory, problem-solving, mood, and executive functions.

These tests help inform the clinician about brain function and can help diagnose conditions like neurological disorders or cognitive impairments. The assessment involves understanding your strengths and weaknesses, motor skills, and cognition. Based on test results, the neuropsychologist may recommend treatment options or refer you to other specialists, such as a neurologist or psychiatrist, to address the diagnosis and improve symptoms.

Our neuropsychologist will write an extensive report and schedule an appointment to discuss and share the results. It's important to work closely with your healthcare provider to schedule a follow-up appointment and discuss recommendations for medication or therapy.

The test results also help inform the appropriate course of action to manage and improve areas identified by our doctor. For the most complete evaluation, it is recommended to undergo a comprehensive assessment, which typically takes several hours. If you have any concerns or need more information, please email us, and we will be happy to answer your questions.
